General Questions

The J-1 Visa is a non-immigrant visa issued by the United States for exchange visitors participating in programs that promote cultural exchange. It allows you to legally work and travel in the USA for a specific period. Edex Global is a designated sponsor organization that can issue the DS-2019 form required for J-1 visa applications.
The duration depends on your program. Intern programs are up to 12 months, Trainee programs up to 18 months, Summer Camp is typically 9-12 weeks plus 30 days travel, and Work & Travel is up to 4 months plus 30 days travel. All programs include a grace period for travel after your work dates end.
Yes, health insurance is mandatory for all J-1 visa holders. The US Department of State requires specific minimum coverage levels. We can help you arrange compliant health insurance as part of your program package.
Extension possibilities depend on your specific program and circumstances. Intern and Trainee programs may be eligible for extension within the maximum duration limits. Contact us early if you're interested in extending, as this requires advance planning and sponsor approval.

Intern & Trainee Program

The Intern program is for current students or recent graduates (within 12 months of graduation) with limited work experience. The Trainee program is for professionals with a university degree AND at least 1 year of relevant work experience. Trainee programs can last up to 18 months, while Intern programs are limited to 12 months.
Yes, our placement service helps match you with host companies in your field. We work with a network of employers across various industries. You'll have the opportunity to interview with potential hosts, and we support you throughout the process until you secure a position.
Most placements are paid positions, though compensation varies by industry, location, and role. Some specialized training programs may be unpaid but offer significant professional development value. We'll discuss compensation expectations during your consultation.
We place participants in a wide range of industries including finance, marketing, IT, engineering, hospitality, media, business administration, and more. Your placement will be in a field related to your academic background or professional experience.

Summer Camp Program

We partner with accredited summer camps across the United States, including traditional overnight camps, day camps, specialty camps (sports, arts, adventure), and camps for children with special needs. Each camp is vetted for safety, quality, and staff support.
You'll live on-site at the camp in staff housing, typically shared cabins or bunks with other international counselors. Accommodation is basic but comfortable, and all meals are provided. It's a communal living experience that's part of what makes camp special.
Pocket money typically ranges from $1,500 to $2,500+ for the summer, depending on your role, experience, and the specific camp. Since room and board are included, most of your earnings are savings you can use for travel after camp.
After your camp contract ends, you have up to 30 days to travel independently in the USA. This is your chance to explore iconic American destinations, visit friends you've made, or experience things on your bucket list before returning home.

Work & Travel Program

Yes, the Work & Travel USA program is exclusively for currently enrolled full-time university students. You must be able to provide proof of enrollment at the time of application and maintain your student status until your program begins.
Jobs are typically seasonal positions in hospitality, food service, retail, and recreation. Common placements include hotels, restaurants, amusement parks, ski resorts, and beach destinations. These are entry-level positions that don't require previous experience.
Most of the employers offer housing as well. If not, we will provide advice and support regarding accommodation arrangements.
Hourly wages typically range from $14-$20+ depending on your location and role. Working 32-40 hours per week, participants can earn $5,000-$8,000+ over the program. Some positions offer overtime opportunities and tips for additional earnings.

Visa & Documentation

Key documents include your DS-2019 form, passport, visa application confirmation, SEVIS fee receipt, financial evidence, proof of ties to your home country, and program-specific documents. We provide a comprehensive checklist and guidance for your interview preparation.
The visa process typically takes 2-4 weeks from DS-2019 issuance to interview, though this varies by location. We recommend starting your application 4-6 months before your intended start date to allow adequate time for all steps.
While visa denials are uncommon for well-prepared applicants, they can happen. If denied, you may be able to reapply. We provide guidance on the denial reason and next steps. Some costs may be non-refundable, so we work hard to ensure you're well-prepared.
Travel outside the USA during your program is generally not recommended as re-entry is not guaranteed. If you must travel, you'll need proper documentation and there are risks involved. We advise staying in the USA for the duration of your program.
